Online petition calls for BBC News to install permanent Climate Crisis tab on front page

BBC News chiefs are facing mounting pressure to do more to promote coverage of the climate crisis including installing a permanent tab on its home page. Greenpeace shuts BP’s HQ on new CEO Bernard Looney’s first day

Greenpeace have staged a dawn protest at the London HQ of BP to mark the first day of the oil and gas giant’s new CEO.

Bernard Looney over the role today as pressure grows on him to accelerate the firm’s transition away from fossil fuels, at a time when exploration continues.

The group claim around 100 activists gathered at St James’Square around 3am today using old oil barrels to block all six entrances.

Rig Rebellion: XR Scotland blockade oil giants Shell’s HQ in Aberdeen

The Scottish arm of climate activists Extinction Rebellion have stepped up their protest by laying siege to the corporate headquarters of world oil giants Shell.

In a dawn raid starting at 6:30am, they formed blockades to all entrances of the firm’s site on Altens Farm Road in Aberdeen.

Friends of the Earth Scotland highlight ‘climate emergency’ as pressure grows over new bill

CAMPAIGNERS claim the Scottish Government proposals for a new climate change bill ‘fails to deliver’ on what is needed to tackle what they say has become a ‘global emergency’.

Friends of the Earth Scotland say worst affected regions are looking to countries like Scotland to throw them a lifeline by being acting more boldly.

They took their argument to the government’s St Andrew’s House HQ in Edinburgh  today where a giant globe highlighting worldwide warming was unveiled.

Green campaigners 60,000 thank yous as Scots politicians urged to ensure fracking ban cannot be scuppered by Westminster

SCOTLAND’S green campaigners celebrated today’s historic ban on fracking – but urged the Holyrood government to act quickly to ensure the decision cannot be scuppered by a Westminster led Brexit.

More than 60,000 people responded to the Scottish Government’s decision over fracking in Scotland – with 99% arguing against its use.

Environmental groups said it was now essential to ensure that voice is respected as plans are made to debate it further in Holyrood.

Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition campaign over Scottish Government eco bill tops 17,000 names in petition with two days to go until consultation closes

STOP Climate Chaos Scotland say 17,000 people have so far joined calls for the Scottish Government to “raise their ambition” over eco targets – with just two days to go until consultation over Holyrood’s new Climate Change Bill closes.

The group, made up of a coalition of concerned organisations including WWF Scotland, Friends of the Earth Scotland, Oxfam and others, presented the petition to Government earlier today.

Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change Roseanna Cunningham accepted 1500 postcards from people who have responded to the consultation, meeting a delegation of children from Sciennes Primary in Edinburgh.

OneKind petition sees thousands call for an end to culling of mountain hares before winter open season

ANIMAL welfare charity OneKind has handed an 11,000 name petition to Holyrood’s Public Petitions Committee calling for an end to mountain hare culling.

They claim they should be protected on conservation and animal welfare grounds.

It suggests an end to all culling of mountain hares in Scotland’s National Parks introducing a Nature Conservation Order.
