THE ‘Great British Beach Clean’ is just nine days away but organisers say just 122 people have so far signed-up to take part in Scotland.
That’s despite the Marine Conservation Society running 40 beach cleans and surveys across Scotland.
Now MCS has issued an SOS for people to get involved and register their support for the event which takes place between September 15 and 18.
Catherine Gemmell, MCS Scotland Conservation Officer, said: “Last year an amazing 1,773 volunteers took part in the Great British Beach Clean on Scottish beaches.
“We’d love to see even more people heading to the country’s beaches and helping clean up at the events that have been organised.”
They say each takes a couple of hours and alongside the clean 100 metres of beach are surveyed.
The information will be used by MCS to work with governments and industry in the charity’s ongoing work to stop litter getting on to our beaches in the first place.
Volunteers can find out more on their website at www.mcsuk.org/waitrose.
